hinge: A jointed metal device, one leaf of which is affixed to a door rim and the other leaf of which is affixed to the doorjamb, that allows a door to open and close.

hinge pin: The pin that slides through the teeth of a hinge leaf.

keyhole cover: An ornamental metal piece, used on doors and furniture, encompassing the cutout of a key-shaped hole.

mortise lock: A square box that contains the latch mechanism to open, close, and lock a door. Mortise locks are manufactured for interior and exterior doors. Both types of mortise locks are available in a variety of functions.

pushplate: A plate affixed tot he surface of an interior door, usually a swinging door, that protects the door as it is pushed open.

rim-lock: A lock mounted onto the surface of the door.

rosette: A circular doorplate. Also called an escutcheon.

sash lock: Two pieces, a lock and a strike, that join the top and bottom sashes of a double-hung window and lock the sashes together.

single-hole drop pull: A cabinet or furniture knob with a dangling ornament.

thumb-lever handle: An exterior handle with a thumb depressor that activates the latch of a mortise lock.
